After putting the Indus Water Agree on hold, the Government of India has made a complete plan to stop the water going to Pakistan.
Highlights
- India planned to build a 113 km long canal.
- Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan will get water from the canal.
- Pakistan will have to face water scarcity.
After putting the Indus Water Agreement with Pakistan on hold, India is now preparing to take another big step. The central government has started work on a major scheme, under which a canal will be built 113 km long to bring the surplus water of Jammu and Kashmir to Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Through this canal, the water flowing towards Pakistan will be stopped. This will also strengthen India’s irrigation system and will make greenery in three states.
Pakistan will crave drop-drop
Home Minister Amit Shah, while indicating the scheme on Saturday, said that in the coming three years, Indus water will be transported to Sriganganagar in Rajasthan. He clearly stated that after this scheme, Pakistan will have to yearn for every drop ‘, while the farmers of India will get plenty of irrigation facility.
The trap of tunnels and canals will be laid
Under this scheme, water supply network will be strengthened through tunnels and canals in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. There is also a plan that the length of the Ranbir Canal associated with Chenab in Kashmir should be increased from 60 kilometers to 120 kilometers. Along with this, the possibility of fully use of Pratap Canal is also being searched.
Another part of this big project is the Ravi-Beas link, which was also proposed earlier but now it is being revived under the canal system. Under this, a barrage will be built on the Ravi river, so that excess water can be diverted towards Beas Basin through a tunnel. Ujh, a major tributary of Ravi, is also proposed to have a multi -purpose (electricity, irrigation and drinking water) project, which is under preparation to implement it soon. This includes moderate and long -term measures include hydroelectric projects such as pakal dul (1,000 MW), Ratley (850 MW), Kiru (624 MW) and Quar (540 MW) on Chenab, which is aimed at maximum exploitation of India’s share.
