Rory McLaroy birds its second and third holes in the first round of the US Open, and maintained that 2-inner number through its early nine.
His second nine – the front side – told a different story.
Starting its day on the 10th hole at the Omont Country Club, Mcilroy shot 33-41 for 4-over 74.
His inner half included four bogies and a double in Par-3 eighth. It could have been bad if not 30-foot bogie sev Par-5 on fourth.
An early co-leader, Mcilroy was ranked 54th when he signed his card. There was a lot of company in his grief. Contestants Shane Lori and Justin Rose shot 79 and 77 respectively.
