In a harrowing late-night incident, six members of a family were trapped inside a lift for 45 minutes in a residential society in Greater Noida West.
The incident occurred around 3:30 am on Sunday, shortly after the family returned from Vrindavan and used the lift to go to the second-floor home in their apartment complex.
The incident took place in the Senior Citizen Society located in the Beta 2 police station area. The family, which had just arrived from a religious trip, was heading to their flat on the second floor in G Block when the lift suddenly stopped moving due to overloading. The abrupt halt caused panic among the occupants.
Alarm Button Failed, Police Stepped In
According to a report in NDTV, the lift’s emergency alarm button was non-functional. With no response from the building authorities, the family was left with no option but to call the police helpline number 112.

A team of Police Response Vehicle (PRV) reached the spot and they used an iron rod to manually open the lift doors. All six individuals were rescued safely and without injuries.
Victims Thank Police for Swift Action
After being pulled out, the family members expressed their deep gratitude to the police officers who came to their aid. “We were stuck inside for nearly 45 minutes, feeling helpless. The police’s quick response saved us,” one of the family members told local reporters.
Such lift-related incidents have been increasingly reported from various residential societies in Greater Noida. Despite repeated complaints and concerns raised by residents, many societies continue to operate lifts with poor maintenance records and non-functional safety features.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Lakhan Yadav confirmed the details of the rescue. “We received a distress call via 112 about a family stuck inside a lift. Our team reached immediately and carried out the rescue operation successfully,” he said.
