Delhi Weather Update IMD Forecasts Rain, Thunderstorms Amid Intense Heatwave

Deljhi weather today: Residents of Delhi and the surrounding NCR region have been reeling under a relentless heatwave over the past several days, with maximum temperatures consistently soaring above 45°C. However, due to the oppressive conditions, it has felt even hotter, inching closer to 50°C, according to the ‘feels like’ index put out by various private weather forecasters.

Amid scorching winds and extreme heat, daily life has been severely disrupted. But there’s some relief in sight. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms in Delhi on Friday, June 14, offering a potential break from the sweltering weather.

Rain Likely In Delhi, UP, Punjab, Haryana And Himachal: IMD

According to the IMD, several regions, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, are expected to witness gusty winds and thunderstorms. This may bring much-needed relief, especially after Thursday (June 12), when Delhi recorded its hottest day of the season so far, with the heat index peaking at a staggering 54.4°C.

Western Disturbance May Bring Temporary Relief, But Monsoon Delayed

Weather experts attribute this shift to an incoming western disturbance, which could bring a dip in temperatures over the next few days. Some areas may experience storm-like conditions, prompting officials to advise farmers and residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions. The weather shift is also likely to slightly improve air quality in the region.

However, this temporary relief is still closely tied to the progress of the monsoon. While the monsoon has reached southern India on time, its arrival in northern India has been delayed. As a result, regions like Delhi and other northern states continue to endure prolonged and extreme heat. Should the rainfall pattern persist in the coming days, it could provide significant respite to those battling the harsh summer conditions.
