But that was then and this is now. Today, the increasing number of mobile apps is functionally similar to mobile websites that they intend to change, and the developer of instant apps was minimal. Even in 2017, loading an app instead of a website was limited utility. As a result, most of us probably faced immediate apps, many times in all years it was an option for developers.

To use the feature that was transported to almost all Android devices by Google Play services, developers had to create a special “instant” version of their app that was less than 15MB. The additional legwork to get an app in front of the new users’ meant that it was always going to be a standing climb, and Google struggles to encourage developers to adopt new features. Also, there is no way to rote in generous AI! So this is not a shock to Google to retire the feature.

This feature is currently listed as “Google Play Instant” in the collection of Google services in your phone settings. Unfortunately, many examples are still not available if you are curious about that immediate apps were like – Finnish Publisher Ilta-sonomat One of some is still offering it.
