Fall of Pune Bridge: PM Modi talks to Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis
Prime Minister Narendra Modi currently spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday on the official visit of Cyprus after the collapse of a tragic bridge over the Indrani river near Talegaon-Indori in Pune district.
The Prime Minister was informed about the rescue and relief operations and the state government was assured of all possible support.
The incident occurred earlier on Saturday when a part of the bridge collapsed, causing several vehicles and passengers to fall into the river.
2 dead, 32 injured
Two people have been confirmed the dead, while 32 others have faced injuries in the accident, said that local authorities, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), were conducting emergency rescue operations.
The bridge is located in the Kundamla region, which has seen heavy rains in recent times. However, police officials confirmed that there was no rain at the time of collapse.
The bridge fell around 2 pm, while tourists were enjoying their weekends on the site. On receiving the report of the incident, local police, villagers and disaster response teams reached the spot and started the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, CM Fadnavis confirmed that the tragic incident claimed the lives of two people, citing preliminary reports. He said that some people were trapped, while others were swept away.
“It was deeply saddened to know about the tragic incident of a bridge over the Indrani river near Talgaon in Pune district. According to the information received so far, 2 persons have lost their lives. I have a deep condolences to their families. We share our grief in this difficult time. We are standing in an X post.
He also said that he was in touch with the Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, CP and Tehsildar. He said, “Some people swept away, so a search operation is going on after a war to find them. NDRF teams have already been posted on the site, and all the concerned agencies have been directed to stay on high alerts,” he said.
