Charlett, 16 June (AP) NACP announced on Monday that the group would not invite US President Donald Trump to its national conference in Charlotte, North Carolina next month, first when the major civil rights organization has opted to exclude a sitting President in its 116 -year history.

NAACP President Derik Johnson announced the step in the afternoon press conference, accusing Trump of working against his mission.

Johnson said in a statement, “It has nothing to do with the political party.” “Our mission is to pursue civil rights, and the present President has clarified that his mission is to end civil rights.” A message was not immediately returned to the White House seeking comments.

In recent months, NAACP has filed several cases against Trump.

In April, for example, the group sued the Department of Education to prevent the withdrawal of federal funds for schools, which did not abolish diversity, equity and inclusion programs, arguing that the department was stopping legal efforts to provide equal opportunities to black students.

The group said in a statement, “The rich history of both Republican and Democrats is a rich history of attending our conference.” Democrat Harry Truman, in 1947, became the first President to attend the NAACP National Conference.

NAACP officials mentioned that the decision was weighty that the organization had long invited the presidents, with whom there was policy disagreement.

In particular, Republican President George W. Bush addressed the group conference in July 2006, following months of criticism of Hurricane Katrina to deal with her administration in 2005, which had an inconsistent impact on the black inhabitants in the New Orleans and Gulf Coast region.

The group also said that Republican President Ronald Reagan accepted its invitation in the office during its first year. Civil rights leaders had criticized the use of Reagan during the 1980 campaign of the word “Welfare Queen” to refer to those who misused federal assistance. The term was seen as a coded racial language for black women.

During his 1981 speech at the NAACP conference in Denver, Reagan stopped the white domination hatred groups and vowed that their administration would “investigate and prosecute those who would try to deprive Americans of their constitutional rights, with violence or threats.” (AP) MNK MNK
