Social media and video networks have become the main source of news in the US, beating traditional TV channels and news websites, explaining research.
According to the Reuters Institute, more than half (54%) people get more news from networks such as Facebook, X and YouTube – TV (50%) and news sites and apps (48%).
A report found, “The rise of social media and personality-based news is not unique to the United States, but changes are happening rapidly-and with greater impact than other countries,” found in a report.
The podcaster who was the most widely seen personality, which stated to a quarter (22%) population that they came to the last week during the news or comment.
The author of the report Nick Nicks said that the rise of social video and personality-operated news “represents another important challenge for traditional publishers”.
The institute also highlighted a tendency to some politicians to give their time to sympathetic online hosts rather than mainstream interviewers.
It states that the worldwide populist politicians are capable of ignoring traditional journalism in favor of “friendly partisan media, personality ‘, and’ efficacy ‘, who often get special access, but rarely ask difficult questions, with many false narratives spreading or worse.”
Despite his popularity, online influential people and personalities were designated as a major source of false or misleading information by about half of people (47%) worldwide – they were placed at level with politicians.
The report also states that the use of X for news “is stable or growing in many markets”, with the biggest uplift in the US.
It states that since Elon Musk captured the network in 2022, “Many more correct people, especially young men, come on the network, while some have been abandoned by some progressive audiences or are using it less frequently”.
In the US, after the acquisition of Musk, self-identity was done as being tripled from the right side.
In the UK, the right -wing X audiences have almost doubled.
Rivids such as Threads, Blaski and Mastodon are “have a slight impact on the globally, with 2% or less access to news”, it has been said.
Other major conclusions about news sources:
- Tikokok is the fastest growing social and video network, which is used by 17% of people around the world for news, which is four percentage points from last year.
- The use of AI chatbots to receive news is increasing, and is doubled between the under -25 as compared to the population as a whole.
- But most people feel that AI will make the news less transparent, accurate and reliable.
- All generations have still given prizes to reliable brands with a track record for accuracy, even if they do not use them as many times they had once.
The report is in its 14th year and surveyed around 100,000 people in 48 countries.
