Queen’s 2025: Carlos Alcaraz labours to victory over Jaume Munar in three hours 26 minutes to reach quarter-finals

This is just a second match on the grass for Alakraj after the physical and emotional toll of the Rolland Garos Final.

He started firmly against Munar, but became unusually disappointed as the match, shouted in his team and disputed a time violation with the umpire through the second set.

World number 59 Munar said before the match that he was prone to getting upset – but he came within a distance of victory, thanks to some strong serving and deep, powerful forehands.

After an first set, Alakraj could not succeed in the second, Munar saved three break points in a gritty performance.

Munar also recalled nine brake points and requires eight set points to edge the line on the line after an hour and 41 minutes.

Alkaraj loved to start the decisive set and quickly went up a break up, with Munar noticed that all his energy had taken the second set.

However, Munar broke back and led 4-3 30–0 before killing Alkaraz, re-shut down four points in a row to force the set back on the terms of the back level.

There was a glimpse for Munar because Alkaraz had gone below 0–30 in his next service game-but as the top players often do, Alkaraz just found a way, serving Munar as a match to a match tie-break as service.

“It was a really difficult fight. He is a great contestant and showed how difficult it is to defeat him,” Alakraj said.
