India’s Stand-in Captain Smriti Mandan had a surprising impact in the first T20I against England on his first T20i Century at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

The left-arm opener reached a milestone in just 51 balls, marking a career-defined moment in his T20I trip. His knock consisted of 14 borders and 3 sixes, showing his entire range of batting.

Regularly, captain Harmanpreet Kaur rested due to a precautionary head injury, the recession entered both as the leader and the batsman. Opening the innings, he played with fluent time and aggressive intentions, anchoring India’s innings and punished the English bowlers with a mixture of classical strokeplays and smart innovations.
The match also marked the return of Shafali Verma and Sneh Rana in the T20i setup, and started several new faces. But it was Madhana’s knock that stole the spotlight, not only announced her return to the top form, but also underlined her credibility as a match-winner in the smallest format.
