Big news is coming out from Bihar. The demand to change the name of Sultanganj, the famous pilgrimage center in Bhagalpur district to ‘Ajgabinath Dham’, has gained momentum. The support of local public representatives, saints, citizens and businessmen is constantly increasing on this demand. Last year itself, this resolution has been unanimously passed in the general board meeting of Sultanganj Municipal Council on June 19 and sent to the Bihar government and the Chief Minister. There is also a deep religious and historical reference behind this demand to change the name. It is believed that this is the land from where the story of the rebirth of the Ganges begins. When King Bhagiratha was trying to bring salvation to his ancestors by bringing Ganga from heaven to earth, then the Ganges stream dissolved the penance of Jahnavi Muni. Angry Muni covered Ganga in his kamandal, then on Bhagiratha’s prayer, he left Ganga. Since then, Ganga also got the name ‘Jahnavi’. Ajgabinath Mahadev Temple is located at this place, where the statue of Shiva is still revered with a bow and arrow. This holy place is situated on the banks of the Ganges, Northwahini and in the month of Shravan, millions of Shiva devotees come here and take a dip.
