June 24: A committee was formed to review the language policy, which was entrusted with the task of giving recommendations.
June 29: The state government officially withdraws the proposal that made Hindi compulsory as the third language.
Reasons behind this decision
Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) strongly criticized these two government proposals. Shiv Sena (UBT) staged protests across the state. In Mumbai, copies of the proposal of 17 June were burnt to resentment. Uddhav Thackeray made it clear that the protest is not from the Hindi language, but the process of forcibly imposing Hindi. Meanwhile, the committee constituted under the chairmanship of Dr. Narendra Jadhav has sought three months to submit its report.
