The R&A announced on Monday that starting next year, it would host an on-site qualifier for the final place in the Open Championship Field in Royal Birkdel.
Responding to a fan survey, it was stated that it wanted more live golf, in 2026, R&A Will called the “winner-le-mooka qualifier” on Monday of the tournament week, in which 12 players will compete with a shot to 12 players competing in Royal Bircadale to 156 players.
The R&A tournament will host a heroes classic on Tuesday of the week, which will feature many previous championships and special guests.
The 18-Hole Shootout-Niyal PGA is in addition to other routes similar to the qualifier on Monday. The final qualifying for this year’s open will be held on Tuesday at four sites around the United Kingdom.
“We (fans) have asked how we can create our experience of participating in the open even more pleasant and they have become clear-they want more live golf, more opportunities to connect with the traditions of the original championship of golf, and more activities on the site to see, hear and play,” said the Chief Executive Officer of R&A.
“As a result, we have introduced new features, which we believe will elevate the open for fans, especially in the leading days for the championship, provides a memorable experience of participating in the Royal Birkadale with friends and family next year.”
