The US Treasury says that it removed 518 Syrian persons and institutions from the list of sanctions after the President’s decree.
Washington DC – The United States President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to abolish a web of sanctions against Syria, a step that will unlock investment in the country after more than six months after overthrowing President Bashar al-Assad.
The US Treasury said in a statement, “Trump’s decree on Monday approved the development of Syria, the operation of its government and the rebuilding of social fabrics of the country.
The Syrian government has been under US financial punishment before the outbreak of civil war in the country in 2011.
Comprehensive approval program, which included provisions related to the violation of human rights of the former government, derailed the reconstruction efforts in the country. It has also contributed to running the Syrian economy on the verge of collapse under Al-Assad.
Trump promised relief from sanctions for Syria during a Middle East visit in May.
The US President said in a statement on Monday, “The United States is committed to supporting a Syria which is stable, integrated and peacefully with himself and his neighbors.”
“A united Syria that does not provide a safe shelter for terrorist organizations and ensures that the safety of its religious and ethnic minorities will support regional security and prosperity.”
The US administration said that Al-Assad and his colleagues, ISIL (ISIS) and Iran and its colleagues would remain in Syria related sanctions.
While the American Treasury said that it had already removed 518 Syrian individuals and institutions from its list of sanctions, some Syrian penalty could not be canceled immediately.
For example, Trump directed American agencies to determine whether the conditions for the removal of restrictions imposed under the Caesar Act have been fulfilled, which enabled a huge punishment against the Syrian economy for alleged war crimes against civilians.
Democratic US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar participated with Republican MP Anna Paulina Luna to introduce a bill earlier this week, legislatively to offer restrictions on Syria to offer long -term relief.
Some laws need to be canceled for real relief for Syrians.

As part of Trump’s order, the US President ordered the state secretary Marco Rubio to review the designation of interim Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shra as “particularly nominated global terrorists”.

But the violence and kidnapping against members of Al-Assad’s Al-Asad’s Alvite sect in the last months has expressed concern among some rights advocates.
