Mulder resumed day 2 at 264 and continued to perform a series of shots and first broke the record of 277 of Graeme Smith, the highest score by a South African captain, set against England in 2003. He also crossed 311 of Hashim Amla to record the highest score by a South African. The all -rounder soon reached 350 off 324 balls.
In 27 years and 138 days, Mulder broke the 61 -year record for the youngest Test captain, scoring a triple hundred. He went to former Australian captain Bob Simpson, who was 28 and 171 days old, when he scored 311 runs against England in Manchester in 1964.
