New Delhi, June 29 (PTI) Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has set a deadline for 31 July for compulsory registration of all coaches – qualified and disqualified – in its dialect to deal with spilling doping cases in the country, it is clear that the non -compliance of instructions will lead to their blackpling.

In its latest circular, to crack the coaches on the coaches involved in the doping of their wards after its decision in the January annual General Body Meeting (AGM), AFI said that the unregistered coaches will not be allowed to provide training to athletes, regardless of their merit.

The National Association said in a circular on Saturday, “AFI has decided to register all coaches, qualified or unqualified which are engaged in training athletes at various places across the country.”

“Registration with AFI is mandatory for all coaches, regardless of their merit, unregistered coaches will not be allowed to provide training to athletes and will not engage in any activity of AFI under any circumstances.” On successful registration, each coach will be allotted a unique registration number by AFI and an ID card will be issued.

“Relevant details will be informed to registered coaches through their respective email address.” Concerned about the growing doping cases between Indian track and field athletes, AFI has made it mandatory for all coaches to register with all coaches in Chandigarh in January or will be blacklisted for all coaches.

In fact, AFI started the registration process last year, but found that a large number of coaches are reluctant to register. Around 700 to 800 coaches were registered, while AFI expected the number 10 times.

This was the reason that AFI made registration of coaches mandatory from this year. All this was more important because AFI is expecting more than 40,000 qualified athletes by 2036, and for this it requires coaches of integrity.

An AFI official told PTI, “Most of the doping coaches in Indian athletics are due to participation. Therefore, we are making it mandatory for coaches to register with AFI. It cannot go in this way, otherwise India can be suspended,” an AFI official told PTI.

Anti-doping cell to also identify suspected coaches =============================== The move for mandatory registration is in addition to the formation of an anti-doping cell to identify coaches Suspected to be “involved in doping of their wards” and drawing up a list of training centers which serve as “hideouts” for cheats on the recommendation of a committee to deal with a high-power.

AFI will share this intelligence with the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) established by world athletics.

The AFI had last year established a high-power committee headed by Sagarpreet Hooda, Special Cell Commissioner of Delhi Police to consider the doping issue.

AFI’s legal advisor Partha Goswami, who is also a member of the disciplinary and appeal panels of world athletics, said, “One of the recommendations of the high-power committee is to prepare a list of suspected coaches and others involved in doping, to know which and which coaches are promoting doping systematically.”

“Another list of centers across India is to create a list that works as a hideout and where athletes are trained with banned substances consumption. There are several hideouts and centers to avoid out-of-competition tests.” PTI PDS PDS SSC SSC
