Nail technicians have an increased body of evidence on professional health experiences, which may include musculoskeletal pain and pain (associated with poor ergonomic design), adverse respiratory, dermatitis, and ocular health effects (associated with chemical exposure), anxiety about cancer and reproductive health (long -term chemical exposure). While these studies contribute to working towards safe functioning, they can inadvertently reduce the nail salon on the dangers and site of loss, as well as obscure the complications of the relationships of nail technicians for their work.
Partnership with Parkdale Queen West Community Health Center in Toronto Nail Salon Workers ProjectDr. Reena Shadan facilitated an art -undisclosed approach to understand the relationship of nail technicians for her work – beyond commercial threats.
“In the context of professional health, it is important to look at the dangers. It is how we understand what is wrong and what needs to be addressed,” Share Shares. “However, focus on dangers alone eradicates the complications of nail salon-based work and nail technicians. This may mean that a partial picture is interpreted as a complete picture, but alone threats alone do not define this work or these workers especially.”
From February 2024 to May 2024, 19 Toronto-based nail technicians conceived their experiences of life-shaped body-shaped body and health. Using various visual and textual elements, body-maps highlight many layers of emotions-framing their work experiences in nail technicians, as beauty service workers in their labor, and in their body-masters formation processes. Furthermore, his statement shows how his work status is resulting in other aspects of his life, such as his social health.
Art-based body-maps allow for more comprehensive understanding of the experiences of nail technicians as workers. They describe professional threats and resulting physical loss, but also happiness, such as in creative work and long interactions with customers, as well as dreams for the hopes and future of nail technicians. ,
