Melani Jolie said that the government has determined that the continuous operation of Hikvision Canada Inc. in Canada would be harmful to Canada’s national security.
In a statement, Jolie said, “After a National Security Review under the Investment Canada Act, the Government of Canada has ordered Hikavizan Canada Inc. to close all the tasks in Canada and close its Canadian business.”
He said, “The government has determined that the continuous operations of Hikvision Canada Inc. will be harmful to the national security of Canada. This determination is the result of a multi-phase review that assesses the information and evidence provided by Canada’s security and intelligence community,” he said.
“Investment under the Canada Act, the scope of this National Security Review does not reach the affiliated operation of Hikvision outside Canada,” Jolie said.
Melani Jolie encouraged all Canadians to focus on this decision and make their decisions accordingly. In addition, the Canadian government has banned the purchase or use of hikvision products in government departments, agencies and crown corporations.
He said, “The Canadian government is reviewing the existing assets to further ensure that the heritage hicvision products are not used further. The Canadian government welcomes foreign investment – but will never compromise on Canada’s national security.”
