A heart-wrenching incident has come to the light from Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya, where an elderly woman was abandoned by her own family members late night on Thursday. The incident was caught on the CCTV camera installed in the area and has sparked widespread outrage.
The woman was reportedly suffering from cancer and had severe neck injuries. She was in a critical condition when her family dumped her on the road. Locals spotted her lying unconscious on the roadside close to Darshan Nagar Medical College and alerted the police, following which she was later rushed to the hospital. She died during treatment.
The CCTV footage showed two women and a man, believed to be the e-rickshaw driver, dumping the woman by the roadside in the Kishun Daspur area in the dead of the night. The woman looked visibly frail due to illness. They can also be seen putting a blanket on her after leaving her on the road. The duo then fled the spot without informing authorities.

The police are trying to identify the culprits and the deceased woman. Since the road was completely deserted and dark at the time of the incident, the police have been unable to identify them.
The old woman lay unnoticed on the roadside for hours without being able to move. She couldn’t identify herself when locals who found her asked her who she was and where she lived, India Today reported.
“Investigations have so far revealed that the elderly woman was transported late at night in an e-rickshaw by her relatives, who then abandoned her by the roadside. After getting the information, the police took the woman to the medical college for treatment, but she passed away during the course of treatment,” Ayodhya Additional Superintendent of Police (City) C P Tripathi told PTI.
A probe has been launched and police are closely examining CCTV footage to ascertain the identities of the two women and the e-rickshaw driver involved in the incident.
Police have assured that strict action will be taken against the family members. Efforts are underway to establish the elderly woman’s identity with the help of nearby residents.
