Chris Mason: Tariffs deal a triumph for Starmer

Chris Mason: Tariffs deal a triumph for Starmer

It had all hallmarks of Trumpian political theatrics.

At the G7 Summit at the Canadian Sunshine at Rockies at the Summit, President Trump Sir emerged from a meeting with a folder branding with a starrer.

Was within it US and UK officials have been kept together Last month to get out of a tariff agreement.

Wish, Trump’s papers were freed and collided with Termac.

The Prime Minister was in a hurry to bend down to take them.

Between the tariff turbulance coming from the White House, this is a win – up to a point – for the Downing Street.

The tariffs in the aerospace industry will be completely removed and the car industry will have 10% levy.

The Prime Minister twice in the last few months has destroyed the plant of Jaguar Land Rover in Solihul in West Midlands – first, when huge tariffs were installed, and then when it was observed that it could be anything adjacent.

There is no doubt that there was a deep concern in the region and in the government that until no deal was done, job losses could be significant.

The hope is that this deal will stop it.

There is a wrinkle: While UK government officials say that Britain is the only country that is exempted from a global tariff of 50% on steel and aluminum, 25% tariff remains.

Negotiations continue to remove it.

I have been told that it is more than a technology to be able to prove that Steel is created in Britain, instead of imported and only ticked – and it is much more difficult than it may seem.

There is also a deal for mutual access to 13,000 metric tons that are being sold in every way – meaning that British farmers can export beef to America.

Officials say there has been no change in the UK food security standards in doing so.

Freaming one step, this full fat is not the US -UK trade deal, was imagined a few times – and, as with President Trump, it has reached an unconventional way.

But, amidst his domestic political crises, it is an achievement for the Prime Minister on the international platform that some other leaders may boast.
