A former CIA analyst, who leaked classified documents about Israel’s plans to attack Iran, has been sentenced to 37 months in jail.
34 -year -old Asif William Rahman convicted two cases of National Defense Information under the Steering Act in January.
Officials say, using its high-level security approval, Rahman printed, photographed and sent top secret documents. He was later being broadcast on social media.
Israel carried out airstrikes on Iran last October, targeting military sites in many areas, in response to the barrage of missiles launched weeks before Tehran.
“For months, this defendant cheated the American people and took an oath to enter his office by leaking some of our country’s most closely living secrets,” the Assistant Attorney General of National Security said in a press release.
In October 2024, documents visible from the Defense Agency Department were published on the Iranian-based telegram account.
Documents carrying a top-covered sign, looked amidst five eye intelligence alliances, formed from the US, Britain, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
The leaked documents also stated that the US schemes and preparation of Israeli plans before the strike on Iran included military property movements.
One refers to Israel’s atomic capabilities, which were never officially accepted.
When asked about the leak, former President Joe Biden said he was “deeply concerned”.
Israel later met the aerial attacks in the month, targeting military sites in many areas in response to missiles removed before Tehran weeks.
Rahman, who works abroad, was arrested by the FBI in Cambodia and brought to the area of American Guam in Guam to face the allegations.
