21 -year -old American tennis star Coco Goff defeated Aryana Sabalenka in the French Open Women’s Singles finals for claiming the second Grand Slam title of his youth career.
Saturday’s finals between Sabalenka and Goff, which are ranked at number 1 and number 2 in the world respectively, were the first Grand Slam women’s finals to introduce top two players since 2018. Gauf is the first American champion at the French Open after Serena Williams in 2015.
Both players fought on three sets. After winning the first set 7-6, Sabalenka returned to dominate the second set, 6–2, before the Belarusian player was dropped from 6–4 in a guttasi final set. After the last volley line of Sabalanka just widened, the Goff fell from the red soil of the Rolland-Maros, his hands were high in the air.
“I don’t think either of us were playing great,” Goff said in an interview with TNT after the match. “But I knew that as soon as I stepped into court when I felt it would be one of those matches. So I was just trying to give myself the best chance and fight every point.”
In the quarter -finals, the Goff reached the final after defeating fellow American Madison Keys, number 7, then hitting Darling Lois Boison in the rear of the crowd, the French player ranked only number 361, which mounted an thrilling syndrella run in the open. On the other side of the bracket, he was about to impose Sabalenka, who had climbed the world’s number 1 in the world last year after winning in New York at Australia and US Open. Sabalenka topped the last three consecutive French Open -winning Polish Star Iga Swetek in the semi -finals.
Gauf exploded in the tennis world as a teenager-in 2018, the title of Juniors was included in Rolland-Maros, which is his first career Junior Grand Slam win.
Americans have won both women Grand Slam titles so far this year. Goff’s victory follows the Kise title at the Australian Open in January.
The French Open Mains Final is set for the French Open Mains Final Sunday between No.1 Jannik Sinner and No. 2 Carlos Alakraj.
