The Colombian Defense Minister has said that fifty soldiers were taken captive by local people in the mountains of Colombia.
The minister, Pedro Sanches said that “Operation Justice” was not given a single shot in dubbing.
The soldiers were seized in the Cauca region, a stronghold of the EMC rebel group, which is engaged in cocaine production and smuggling.
Mr. Sanchez convicted EMC, describing the soldiers as “kidnapping”, he said that the local people who had seized them were ordered to do so by the rebels.
The Colombian army said the incident started with the arrest of a suspected EMC rebel on Saturday.
As the soldiers prepared the suspect from the hilly region to airlift the airlifted, they were surrounded by more than 100 people.
The Colombian Army General Eric Rodriguez said that another military unit was seized the next day by a large group of local people.
This was not the first time that members of the security forces were detained by the locals, but the size of the group of soldiers was unusually large.
In previous similar examples, locals interacted with human groups and captured soldiers were released relatively rapidly.
But this time, 57 catastroars refused to talk to any Go-Betwen, which triggered the deployment of additional soldiers in the area to free the captive soldiers.
The Defense Minister said that heavy armed reinforcement was deployed in the area and 20 people were arrested.
According to estimates by the military, more than 90% of residents of the area depend on the cultivation of coca shrubs – the plant is used to make cocaine – for a living.
Therefore the presence of soldiers in the area is often seen as a direct threat.
The region has also been affected by the presence of several armed groups that remove farmers and landlords, and are engaged in illegal mining and cocaine smuggling.
