A Norway court sentenced a doctor to 21 years in jail for rape and sexual exploitation of dozens of women, which has shocked the Scandinavian country.
Former GP Arne Bye has been convicted in 70 cases of rape and sexual assault. He was also convicted in 82 cases of misuse of his situation as a doctor, Norwegian media reports.
Almost all crimes occurred during medical examinations, which used to do goodbye to their patients, while they worked as a physician in the small town of Frosta – a small community of less than 3,000 inhabitants, near Tronham on the west coast of Norway.
Bye was also banned from practicing medicine and ordered to pay compensation.

According to Norwegian media, the court had discussed a long prosecution, including allegations related to 94 women for about two decades.
Bye blamed for some crimes, and was also acquitted on several allegations.
Addressing the court at Tronham on Friday, Judge Espain Hug said that the case was “very serious” and described bye actions as “absolutely unacceptable”.
Judge Hug said, “The defendant’s actions took place in a place and setting, where people feel safe.” “His actions have reduced public belief in doctors as well as healthcare.”
The 55 -year -old defendant stood at his feet, as a maximum punishment, and appeared as calm and precious.
The court was then asked to sit as the decision took more than an hour to read.
The health officials first warned the police for concerns about Bye in August 2022, and they were charged a year later.
Bye had secretly installed a camera in his office, Norwegian media reports. The police exposed the scale of crimes after reviewing the footage of hundreds of hours.
Dozens of women, allegedly, came ahead of the age group between 14 and 67 from the small, rural community. The initial complaint returned in 2004, the most recent since 2022.
There were methods used for central medical examinations for the case.
In four months, the court heard the details of non-consciousness touch and inappropriate pelvic examinations, which was conducted by bye.
These Acts form rape under the Norwegian law, which distinguish between the penetrating and the rape on the non-rampage.
During these exams, during these examinations, bye was also shown to use a deodorant non-healing devices, there was no justification for doing so.
The defense lawyers sought a low sentence of about 17–18 years as goodbye convicted 21 victims for rape.
Prosecutors told public broadcaster NRK that they were satisfied with the decision, and would review the result before considering any appeal.
Bye’s lawyer also said that he would take some time to read the verdict properly before appealing.
