DP 2034 to be modified in order to facilitate land acquisition for coastal road | Mumbai news

Mumbai: After a Didat by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, BMC’s Development Scheme (DP) department on Saturday issued a notice to amend DP 2034, which was to make provisions for a coastal road from Versova to Dahisar. Stretchs from Versova to Dahisar and Dahisar are being done by BMC.

On Friday, when Fadnavis reviewed the coastal road, the officials who implemented the project said that land acquisition would be difficult if the areas were not marked. Since the government wants BMC to start work in August 2025, it sought immediate changes in DP. “The CM asked us to issue a notice immediately,” said a senior official of the DP department.

Officials said the reservation changes, the acquisition will become easier. Accordingly, some plots in Pahdi village, Goregaon, and Borivali, Acar and others in Dahisar will now be reserved for coastal roads. The project will require 164 hectares of land – out of this 61.5% BMC is land, 10% belongs to the state government while the rest is private land.

Fadnavis has asked the collectors of Mumbai suburban and Thane district to give advance possession of the government land required for the project so that construction can begin. A month layout in Aram Nagar and a building of Central Institute of Fisheries Education, both in Andheri, will have to be acquired for it. BMC will have to kill a large number of mangroves, and will be rebuilt in Chandrapur district.

The Maharashtra Coastal Area Management Authority has already approved the project, but the forest right committee of Mumbai suburban district is yet to do so. It is designed to protect the rights of forest inhabitants under the committee, Scheduled Tribes and other traditional forest residents (recognition of forest rights) Act, 2006, 2006, plays a role in cases where forest land is proposed for a turn for non-one-one-one purposes.

The work between Versova and Dahisar will be done in six phases while the construction of Dahisar-Bhaiyadar Road will be a different. The alignment of the road is still to be finalized on the DP.

The Chief Minister has ordered to work on the coastal road by August 2025 and said that Versova-Dahisar stretch will be completed by December 2028. The entire project will cost 22,000 crores.
