India fought back in the middle session with wickets from Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur, including a dramatic double-strike from Thakur that saw Ben Duckett and Harry Brook fall in quick succession. However, England’s seasoned pair of Joe Root and Ben Stokes steadied the ship, steering the team closer to the target with a calm, calculated approach.
England crosses the line with confidence
Root remained unbeaten as England crossed the line with confidence, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The win is particularly significant as it came on a pitch that offered some late turn and reverse swing, testing both teams’ skills and temperament.
India will rue missed chances and an ineffective bowling display outside of Jasprit Bumrah’s heroics. England, on the other hand, will take great confidence from their ability to chase down a big total under pressure.
