Epic reaches mystery settlement with Samsung days before new Galaxy phones

Epic reaches mystery settlement with Samsung days before new Galaxy phones

Last September, after successfully sueing Google to run an illegal app store monopoly, Executive Games also sued Samsung -Accusing the phonemaker of illegally conspiring with Google to reduce the third side app store. Samsung, an “Auto blocker” feature on the Samsung Android phone, was launched by default, automatically prevents users from installing apps from stores that have not been authorized by Samsung, such as Epic’s mobile stores.

Our only sign is from Tim Sweeny, CEO of the epic Games, On XSaying that Epic won some kind of assurance from Samsung in return for leaving his claims. “We are dismissing our court case against Samsung after discussions by parties. We are grateful that Samsung will address the concerns of Epic,” he writes.

But the epic is not saying how Samsung can address its original concerns. In the last September, Sweeni had clearly placed two ways that Samsung could do so: either 1) replace the auto blocker so that it is default, or 2) Create “an honest white process” that automatically gives honest apps through Samsung’s obstruction.

The epic will not confirm that Samsung has agreed to either of those things when we asked today. “Nothing to share beyond filing/X post,” Epic Senior Com’s Director tells Elka Looks Ruckus,

Samsung did not immediately respond to the remarks request.

Given how Samsung’s unpacked event is coming in two days, I would be surprised if the second shoe will fall during Samsung’s presentation. Did Samsung pre-load the epic game shop on his phone, perhaps? But this should not be satisfied to Sweeni, who repeatedly said that he fights these cases on behalf of all developers, not only on his store.

“If we fight Epic v. Apple And Epencessary v. Google Defaults with Apple and Google can be fruitful only, based on the epic special privilege only, ” Sweeni told me Last September, when I asked why he did not ask Samsung to make Epic Games Store an authorized source. ,[I]F we did this, we must be selling all the developers, ”he said.

While Epic has today dropped its claims against Samsung, it has not technically prosecuted, which was filed against both Samsung. And To start Google. Claims against Google will continue, at least for this time: They count 8, 10, and 12 in a brand new first revised complaint that I have embedded below.
