Grand Canyon Lodge destroyed Arizona Wildfier

A fierce wildfire near Grand Canyon in the US has destroyed dozens of buildings – including a historical lodge that was the only house available within the northern rim of the surrounding National Park.

The fire that destroys the Grand Canyon Lodge is one of the two which has swept away thousands of acres of land in the area.

Blaze has also forced the North RIM to be closed for the remaining 2025 tourism season.

Officials in the state of Arizona are still working to incorporate the fire, which have been described as Dragon Bravo Fire and White SEZ Fire.

According to officials, the Dragon Bravo Fire started on 4 July and was caused by an electric strike. Meanwhile, the Wild SEZ fire was reported on 9 July after a thunderstorm after a thunderstorm through the area. Both are 0% as Monday.

Located about 8,000 feet (2,438 m), the Grand Canyon Lodge included food facilities, a gift shop and post office. It was working since the 1930s.

Aramark, a company operating the lodge, said in a statement, “As the stewers of some of our country’s most beloved national treasures, we have been destroyed by the loss of Grand Canyon Lodge.”

“We are grateful that all our employees and guests have been safely evacuated,” the statement said.

Blaze has not caused any injury, which was fuel by continuous winds reaching 40mph (64 km/h).

But preliminary assessment from the National Park Services (NPS) indicates that the Dragon Bravo is lost in the fire between 50 and 80 buildings, including administrative buildings and visitor facilities.

The NPS stated that firefighters in many areas were forced to vacate due to leakage of chlorine in nearby water treatment facility.

Chlorine gas is heavier than air and can settle in low height, potentially pose risk for both firefighters and hikers in the area.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbes, a Democrat, first thanked the respondents, but called for an inquiry to investigate the operation of the federal government of Dragon Bravo Fire.

Hobbes wrote in a social media post on Sunday, “While the flame started with an electric strike, the federal government chose to manage that fire as a controlled burning during the most dry, hottest part of Arizona Summer.”

He said that there should be “acute monitoring and investigation” and should be called from the federal government to investigate the response.

In a media statement, Elizabeth Peace, a spokesman of the US internal department, said that the fire was misbehaved “is not exactly not accurate and our Wildland fire experts definitely know the difference”.

He said that the department takes the threat of wildfire “with great seriousness”.

Second Blaze, White SEZ fire, so far Kibab has burnt more than 40,000 acres of National Forest, forcing hundreds to evacuate.

About five million people visited the Grand Canyon in 2024, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the US.

Canian’s south rim remains open.
