A British Telco can shut over 40,000 people in the coming years
The Telco I mentioned at the beginning of the article is BT Group, which is one of the largest telecom companies in the UK. According to reports, BT is considering deeper workforce deduction as AI becomes more central for its operation. The company currently employs around 99,000 people, but is planning to reduce that number by at least 40,000 by 2030, even with the possibility of stator deduction.
CEO Alisen Kirkbi believes that AI can significantly improve efficiency and increase these deduction beyond initial estimates. The push was cut in 55,000 jobs in the earlier plans announced in 2023, including contractors, as part of the widespread cost-cut attempt.
