‘Have asked parents to take back abandoned baby: Police | Mumbai news

Panvel: A two-day old girl was released in Takka in Panvel on Saturday morning, the police left her parents for Bhiwandi. Police said that both the mother and father were from the families doing well and they left the child as their family members did not know about their marriage last year. The couple have been asked to withdraw the child, currently under the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) custody, police officials familiar with the case told Hindustan Times.

Assistant Police Commissioner (Crime) Ajay Landz said that the child’s parents were detected on the basis of CCTV footage and other technical leads of the car.

Senior Police Inspector Nitin Thackeray of Panvel City Police Station said that he questioned both parents on Sunday.

“The couple said that they had secretly married and since their families were not aware of it, they could not keep the child. We have left with a warning and asked them to withdraw the child after the appropriate process,” Thackeray said.

The child is currently under CWC custody at the Vatsalya Purviks Center, a rehabilitation center in Alibag.
