How A Lifelong Obsession With Marie Antoinette Inspired This Stylist Bride’s Bespoke Pink Dress For Her Cornish Wedding

Katie Selbi-Green and her future husband, Ben Boskavane, both were working in the Topsap/Topman at Oxford, when they met in 2015. “I remember if I don’t take a dip and take out this wonderful man out of the market, she would not stay around forever,” she says. “I didn’t want to regret that I would let a great thing go, and it was the best decision.” The first date of the couple included champagne and a picnic. It went so well that they had lost the track of time and Katie missed her bus.

After nearly a decade, Ben proposed at home on Valentine’s Day last year, as Katie was washing. “She discovered the ring for eight months,” she says. “It is 130 years old and is different from any other engagement rings, which I have seen, it is definitely a kind.”

Everything seemed right, but things took a dramatic turn when KT unexpectedly faced a brain bleeding in that happy day in the kitchen. Ben was continuously on his behalf for 10 days spent in the hospital (Katie’s father later joked in his father’s father that he could not invent a tough exam for a potential son -in -law compared to this one). “After leaving the hospital in a wheelchair, the wedding plan slipped from our mind,” Katie accepted. “But I recovered a rapid recovery, and with a clean bill of health, our dream wedding became even more important.”

As a stylist, Katie was under pressure to wow with her wedding look. “These fashion moments have a lot of weight around these fashion moments,” she says. “I became my own customer, and I was very difficult to please!” After trying over 70 costumes, Katie still did not find one, and she began to worry that her right dress was present in her mind. Then, he was introduced to his “Fairy Bridemother”, Seemstress Grace Lane, who was persuaded to work with him despite being fully booked.

“Grace and I sent a lot of images forward and back, and a lot of references we loved were historical and clothes worn by Mary Antonate,” she says. “I am always ready for her style – I remember my aunt was giving me this incredible Silver Mary Antonate Wig when I was 12 years old and was wearing it all the time. I used to sleep in practically in it! With fashion and reinforcement, with fashion and reinforcement, she always resonated her own way with me.
