Israeli Army kills 51 Palestinians. Waiting for flour at the Gaza aid site, witnesses and rescuers say

Witnesses and rescuers say more than 51 Palestinians were killed by Israeli armies and many more were injured after opening a fire near a support distribution site in Southern Gaza.

The Civil Defense Agency run by Hamas said that Israeli soldiers opened fire on the crowd near the aid site in Khan Younis. More than 200 people were reportedly injured.

The Israeli army has told the BBC that it is watching in reports.

It is the latest, and possibly the most deadly, which is almost daily shooting, which is recently happening near the help distribution sites in Gaza.

In recent times, almost all the casualties in Gaza have been linked to the distribution of assistance rather than the Israeli attacks on Hamas goals.

Eyewitnesses say the Israeli forces set fire and opened an area near a junction east of Khan Younis, where thousands of Palestinians gathered in the hope of obtaining flour from the World Food Program (WFP) site, including a community kitchen nearby.

A local journalist and eyewitnesses said the Israeli drone fired two missiles, soon after a shell from an Israeli tank 400 to 500 meters from the crowd. The explosions caused several casualties.

The crowd gathered near a major road, which leads to the city of Bani Suhaila, an area that has seen weeks of Israeli military operations.

Nasir Hospital, the main working medical facility in the area, has been overwhelmed by the number of casualties. It is so crowded that many injured are lying on the floor because the medical staff treats his injuries.

The video shown immediately after the incident and shared on social media has been verified by the BBC at a place of Khan Younis. Mahmood Basal, spokesman of Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency, told AFP that at least 50 people were killed. He said, “Israel’s drone opened fire on citizens. A few minutes later, Israeli tanks fired several shells on citizens, causing large number of martyrs and injured,” he said.

The IDF said in a statement, “A gathering was identified with a support distribution truck, which was trapped in the area of Khan Younis, and in the proximity to IDF soldiers working in the area.”

It said that it was “aware of the reports about several injured persons from the IDF fire” and the incident was being reviewed.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said it had received reports of a large -scale casualty incident.

“This is again the result of another food distribution initiative,” Thanos Gargwanis said, who hurts the surgeon and emergency officer.

He said, “There is a continuous relationship with the posts of four declared food distribution sites and large -scale casualties,” he said that in recent times, trauma injuries were mostly from gunshot wounds.

For weeks, the medical staff warned that Nasir Hospital may be overwhelmed and unable to continue to operate under pressure from several casualties, lack of medical supply and Israeli withdrawal orders in the surrounding area.

In recent times, the hospital has been working with an almost daily flow from shooting incidents near the assistance distribution sites run by the hospital Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) – which is supported in Israel and America – Southern and America.

In all those incidents, witnesses have said that Israeli soldiers set fire to people, although there have also been reports of shooting local armed gunmen on people.

The IDF response was usually made to say that his soldiers warned people not to contact them – and then fired shots when the IDF was deemed to have a threat to “suspects”. The Israeli army has not given very little or any details beyond this.

Israel does not allow international news organizations including BBC in Gaza, which is verified what is happening there.

The GHF has also replied to the firing, saying that they should not be mentioned regarding their operation, as the events are getting away from their sites.

But there is no doubt that thousands of Palestinians would not be assembled in desperate search for limited supply of food in those areas, if it was not that the new distribution system was established.

The IDF has not asked Palestinians to assist the distribution sites between 18:00 and 06:00 local time. But there is a chance to reach the sites and get food, people have very few options.

The video verified from GHF sites shows a huge crowd of Palestinians, which tries to get food parcels with no clear control from the organization. Trying to improve security has already closed its sites on at least two occasions.

Another way to get aid in Gaza – with Israel about 100 trucks a day – has also faster people who tries to get the supply, whether it travels to them from distribution points or from aid convoy.

This is a sign of a breakdown in both safety in Gaza and in the help distribution system.

Hamas has responded to the latest incident again by describing the aid centers as a trap of death.

Plunder among a population for rare supply of food – with criminal gangs, militia and Hamas are also working for their own ends – this situation has made even more dangerous.

Critics saw the GHF as the Israeli government enabling a plan to displace the South in small areas of Gaza by the Government of Israel. But Israel – which has long been sought to remove the United Nations as a major human provider for Palestinians – argues that an alternative system was required to prevent Hamas theft aid.

On Monday, the United Nations Human Rights Head Volcar Turk stated that Israel was laying a weapon and was called for a thorough investigation into the firing.

Head of UNRWA – The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees – Philip Lazarini has said that ‘the tragedies go on unbitured in the tragedies while meditation is somewhere else change’.

Nevertheless, it seems that there is no plan from Israel, Gaza Humanitarian Foundation or International Community, to find a way to prevent daily murder of Palestinians, as they take their lives in their hands to look for a small supply of food.

On 7 October 2023, Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to the border from across the Hamas -led border on Israel, with 20 months, with about 1,200 people killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

According to the health ministry of the region, since then more than 55,297 people have been killed in Gaza.
