Japan has killed a person who killed nine people in 2017, for the first time since 2022, the country has punished capital.
Dubbing “Twitter Killer”, the serial killing by Takiro Shirishi shook the country and started a debate on how the suicide took place online.
Shirishish, then 30, lured their victims – between the ages of 15 and 26, most of them in their apartments, before strangling and destroying them.
Murders came to light in October 2017, when police found body parts in Japanese city of Zama near Tokyo, when they were looking for one of the victims.

Shirishi later admitted to killing nine suicide victims and revealed that he became familiar on Twitter, social media platforms now known as X.
He then told them that he could help them die, and in some cases claimed that he would kill himself with them.
His Twitter profile included words: “I want to help those who are really in pain. Please DM [direct message] I ever ,
Nine disintegrated bodies were found in coolers and tool boxes when officials visited their flat, which was dubbed as “House of Hormers” by media outlets.
While prosecutors sought death sentence for Shirishi, his lawyers argued for a low accusation of “consenting murder”, claiming that his victims had allowed him to kill him.
He also called for assessing his mental state.
Shirishi later disputed the version of his defense team’s events and said he was killed without the consent of the victims.
In December 2020, hundreds of people showed their judgment hearing when they were sentenced to death.
The murders also inspired a change by Twitter, which amended the state’s users, “should not promote or encourage suicides or self-loss”.
