- 5 firefighters injured in fire, one condition critical
Islamabad: In Karachi, on Sunday morning, light smoke started to rise from a factory in Landhi Export Processing Zone, so no one thought that this smoke would swallow the entire area in the next few hours. One after the other four factories were burnt to ashes. The fire was so fast and terrible that even after 24 hours it could not be completely extinguished. How dangerous the fire is, it can be gauged from the fact that till now five firefighters have been injured. The condition of one of them is said to be critical.
Third degree fire
During the fire operation, part of the roof of a factory suddenly fell, and five firefighters were injured by coming under it. They were immediately rushed to the hospital, but the condition of one of them remains critical. Rescue officials have kept the fire in the ‘third degree’ category. That is, the most serious situation. This means that there is not just a fire here, every layer of danger exists here – explosive substances, structural demolition, and poisonous gases.
Fire in this area earlier also
Landhi Zone is a major industrial area of Karachi, but it is a matter of regret that the security system is often under question. Last month, there was a fire in a garment factory near Murtaza Chowrangi, in which property worth crores was burnt down. Still there was no major change, no security plan. At present, the real cause of the fire has not been known. However, rescue officials say that the fire caught pace due to chemicals and clothes stored in the factory.
