The arrested persons have been identified as Monojit Mishra (31), Zab Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20), who are all alumni or employee members of all college. In a new development, college guard, Pinaki Banerjee (55) has also been arrested for his alleged involvement in the case, Kolkata Police Said on Friday.
According to police sources, the alleged gang rape took place on 26 June between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm inside the Law College Building. Investigators said one of the accused has carried out sexual harassment, while others have supported the crime.
The victim’s family filed a formal complaint on Wednesday night, after which the police started a Swift operation. Two accused- monsted and seized, were brought close to Siddharth Shankar Roy Sishu Udin, closer to the Crossing. Prati was arrested from her residence the same night later. The police have also seized the mobile phones of the three accused.
The officials have produced the accused before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM), additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of Alipore of South 24 Parganas, and demanded police custody for further investigation. The crime site has been secured and a forensic team has investigated the location.
Police officials said that fast arrests and continuous investigation are going on to ensure justice for the victim.
