Washington, 27 June (AP) Louisiana is the latest state to redefine natural gas as green energy under a new law, signed by the Republican Governor this week, even though it is a fossil fuel that emits planetary fuels that emit planetary-wisely greeneous gases.
Republican – Three other states have passed similar laws under the leadership of Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee.
In some democratic-elevated states, efforts have been made to phase out natural gas. New York and California cities such as San Francisco and Berkeley have gone to ban natural gas hooks in new buildings, although some of these policies have been successfully challenged in court.
President Donald Trump has signed executive orders promoting oil, gas and coal, which heat all the planets when burning to produce electricity. The European Union had previously nominated natural gas and atoms as durable, a step that sues the Greenpeace and Austrian government.
Louisiana village Jeff Landry, a prominent booster of the state’s petrochemical industry, says the new law “sets tone for the future” and will help the state to “pursue energy freedom and dominance”. Environmental groups say that these new laws are part of a broad push to rebrand fossil fuels by petrochemical industry-supported groups and close efforts to move the electric grid to renovation, such as solar and wind. This is “pure original greenwashing”, which Greenpeace USA Research Director Tim Donaghi said.
Globally, the term Green Energy is used to refer to the energy derived from natural sources that do not pollute – solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geotomical energy. Louisiana law can enable slated funds to the state clean energy initiative used to support natural gas.
Natural gas has been the top source of power generation in the United States for almost a decade, as since crossing the coal. Coal and natural gas produce carbon dioxide that heat the planet when burns, but coal produces more than double.
Switching from coal to natural gas reduces carbon dioxide emissions, but it can increase methane emissions. The primary ingredient of natural gas, methane is an extraordinary powerful greenhouse gas, more powerful in implicating heat than carbon dioxide and is responsible for about 30 percent of today’s global warming.
Rob Jackson, a climate scientist at Stanford University, said that apart from coal, everything else is better than gas for the planet. He said that for decades, fossils manufacture new gas plants in fuel emissions.
Refuying the law of natural gas Louisiana, with nuclear power to state agencies and utilities, to “prioritize” natural gas, on the basis that it will improve the power strength and reliability of the state.
Writer of law, Republican rape. Jacob landry, an oil and gas industry consultation firms run.
“I don’t think it is crippled anything for air or solar, but you realized that the wind is not blown all the time and the sun is not shining every day,” Landry said. He said that the law “needs us priority that whatever the grid keeps active, needs to be given priority.”
Landry told Associated Press that he used a model bill as a template by the US Legislative Exchange Council. Alex is a conservative think tank that has relations with the billionaire coach family of the oil and gas industry.
Alec helped shape Ohio’s 2023 law to legally define natural gas as a source of green energy, according to documents received by the Watchdog Group Energy and Policy Institute and first reported by Washington Post.
Alec spokesperson Larse Delside said that just because a legalist from Ohio abandoned the 2022 Alec Convention, which he described as a model to define natural gas, because clean energy in the form of clean energy does not mean that group shaped ohio law. Dalsade said that the conference is “a place where MLAs from all over the country gather to exchange ideas.” Ohio’s law was also greatly influenced by a advocacy group, led by Republican Megadoner Tom Rustin, who is now executive of retired gas industry.
According to the policy and communication manager Dave Anderson for the Institute of Energy and Policy, these laws are part of a long -running disintegration campaign by the gas industry, so that they can clean their products to protect their business and prevent changes in renewable energy sources that will address climate crisis.
Anderson said, “Targets are elongated to compete with wind and solar renewal, and in some cases the 100 percent actually determines the ability of the local people to choose to pursue clean energy,” Anderson said, Alexon said, Alex’s law makes natural gas “state and local clean energy standards and funding.” Grid reliability Gov landry and other supporters of the new law said that they want to ensure that residents and businesses have a reliable electric grid. About 80 percent of Louisiana grid is already powered by natural gas.
Landry said that businesses would come to Louisiana if they know they can rely on the state’s electric grid. He highlighted Meta’s plan to create a large -scale AI data center operated by three natural gas plants.
Louisiana law orders preference to nuclear power to providers of utilities. Nuclear power does not emit greenhouse gases while producing electricity. However, critics say it is more expensive than solar and wind and the US does not have enough long -term solutions for waste storage.
Consumer advocates say that states do not need to embrace natural gas at the cost of air, solar and other technologies for a reliable grid.
Legally stating that utilities have preferred natural gas, “blinds for innovation, market development, and practical demand for modern electric systems,” Jeffrey Clarke, President of Advanced Power Alliance, a renewable energy advocacy group, has written in a statement opposing Louisiana law.
