McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has revealed that Oscar Piastry apologized after hitting the team’s partner Lando Noris in the Austrian Grand Prix.
Noris and Piastry worked hard to lead the race in the red bull ring F1 safety car.
Prior to the first round of the pit, Piastry tried to overtake Noris from Turn 4.
The piastry shut down and almost fled to the edge of the Noris, flat-spotting its tires in the process.
Later in the race, race engineer Tom Stalard warned the Piastry that his move was “very marginal” and he could not do it again. “
Talking to Sky Sports after the race, Stella confirmed that Piastry admitted that her step was very aggressive.
“It was intense racing, but this is what we are here,” Stella said. “Austria is a special track, when you get DRS you move beyond the car.
“This is what happened in the first term, the speed of the lando and the Oscar was the same. They lived together, then at the end of the stent, the Oscar had some opportunities.
“We are proud of how he handled the situation. We need to give an Oscar advice in the context of maneuver in corner 4 which he really accepted. Once again, he was proud of it. After the checker flag he said that he is sorry that he went far away.
“They are clearly stressful moments, but we rely, we rely on the lando and the Oscar. On the pitwall you try to stay as cold as possible, and rationally analyze what is going on.”
McLaren has ‘grown’ from Canada
1-2 finish of McLaren is a welcome result after a hard Canadian Grand Prix.
McLaren saw Oscar piastry And Lando Noris Cump into Montreal earlier this month – for the first time two titles claimants have moved into each other this season.
The situation did not grow as Noris quickly grabbed his hands and apologized for contact.
Stella admitted that McLaren is now more “united” after Canada incidents.
Stela said, “People needed an opportunity to win the race, as long as they did in what they did,” Stela said.
“Canada’s episode was a misunderstanding. Lando termed the concluding speed, racing line as false.
“It was an unfortunate episode to cover a distance from the front corner. Lando apologized to the team, they took responsibility, what he wants.
“From there, we started a process of good conversations. We united as a team. This is how you grow, not everything will be good. Even unpleasant events need to find a way to grow.”
The race for the title of this year’s F1 drivers now has 15 points between Piastry and Noris.
