The National Defense Ministry of Türkiye said that twelve Turkish troops have died after coming in contact with Methane gas in Iraq.

On Sunday, at least 19 personnel were apprised of gas during search and clear operations, and immediately rushed to the hospital.

12 soldiers had died by Monday, the ministry said.

The soldiers were searching for the body of a soldier killed in bullets in May 2022. The ministry said that despite the efforts, the remains have still not been recovered.
