Tinder requires new users in California to use facial identification technology to verify your profile, Exios reported On Monday. The new “face check” feature aims to reduce the copying on the dating app and ensure that people are not linked to bot or fake accounts.
Users for face check require a short video selfie when they are signing up for the app. The scan confirms that the person is real, checks whether their face matches their profile photos, and also finds out whether the same face is being used in many accounts, AxiOS reports.
If they pass the check, the user will receive a photo verified badge on their profile. Tinder said it would then remove the selfie video, but store an encrypted face map to help in the future duplicate profiles, the report states.
Face check is already used in Colombia and Canada.
It is worth noting that the face is different from the check ID check On tinder, which is used to verify age and identity using the ID issued by the government.
