The New York senators voted 57–2 to approve the ban on Sweepstake Casino in the proposed New York at Senate Bill S5935A. After passing through the Senate, the bill has now been sent to the House, where the Assembly Methods and Means Committee will discuss it.
Proposed by Senator Joseph Edbo, Bill asks for a complete ban on sweepstake games. It defines them as a casino-style games that can be played with a dual-currency system, in which players can exchange currency for cash or award. The bill also attempts to stop another company, including suppliers, investment firms and payment processors, working with sweepstake operators.
Struggle-and-existence orders to investigate and issue power
Enforcement of the proposed ban will be the responsibility of the state gambling regulator, New York State Gaming Commission, which is working with the office of Attorney General. The Bill gives them the power to investigate and release the struggle-and-unique orders, and those who violate the law will be subject to the five-night fines and the disposal of their gaming license.
Speaking about the bill in front of fellow MPs, Sen Edbo said: “So far, our state has not legalized online gaming. The legal market is currently seven licensed casinos in New York and any other gaming issue has been authorized by New York … until we do not legalize online gaming in New York, they do not want illegal markets if we do not want illegal markets in New York.
