A 39-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of 15 to 20 people in a moving train late on Friday night. The victims, Deepak Yadav, were returning from Delhi to their hometown Baghpat, when they were attacked during a visit to Saharanpur-Delhi passenger train near Fakharpur railway station. According to the police, a deadly attack started after a dispute over one seat and continued for about 10 km from Fakharpur to Khekra station.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers used belts, fists and kicks, while some passengers tried to intervene. The attackers allegedly fled before the train stopped.
Officials of the Government Railway Police (GRP) confirmed that Deepak was taken off the train and rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. His partner in the train informed police and family members soon after the attack started.
“An FIR has been filed under the Indian Nyaya Code (BNS) Section 191 (2) for the riot and for the murder. Five youths have been arrested and questioned. The post mortem report will help determine whether sharp -edged weapons were used.
Deepak, a resident of Mohalla Aharan in Khekra city, was appointed for 15 years at a chandelier showroom at Bhagirath Palace in Delhi. He is alive by his wife Savitri, daughter Ayushi and son Aviral. He was the only son of his parents and used to travel home regularly every weekend.
Several videos recorded by passengers emerged on Saturday, capturing the sequence of the attack. In a video, the victim is allegedly attacked, while some individuals try to stop the crowd. Another clip features a group beating a lamp with a belt inside the crowded compartment. In a short video, the accused is shown jumping from the train near Khekra.
The footage is now an important part of the ongoing investigation. Police are reviewing the recording to identify the attackers and their escape.
Deepak’s neighbor, Rajveer Singh, told the police that the victim had no history of conflict, but an earlier scuffle was mentioned which included some of Deepak’s associates. Although Deepak was not present during the incident, the police suspect that the same group may target him.
According to family members, the attack has been prepared. Deepak’s mother’s uncle, Subhash Yadav alleged that the mob was headed by a person identified as Rahul Baba of the village. He claimed that the attackers, who often traveled on the same route, recognized Deepak when he was alone and started the attack.
Subhash said, “He was traveling with colleagues, who landed in Fakharpur. After some time, he was surrounded and attacked. We believe they used sharp weapons,” Subhash said.
