Omkont, Pa. – Mike Van is one of the most dynamic and attractive leaders of golf as the CEO of USGA. He is also one of the most action officers of the game, who gives his response on Wednesday to a follow -up question about the association’s plan to tell the ball final.
“Is there a Plan B?” A member of the media asked about a possible plan for the pivot for the USGA, if the resistance to the roll back continues to mount.
“We have announced our plan,” Van just said.
The not-so-site message was that the USGA and R&A intended to move forward with the roll back, which would begin in 2028 for elite professionals and for recreational players in 2030.
“We have given dates to the manufacturers that we know they are working. They are collecting prototypes and are R&D efforts,” Van said. “I think you will say, can set it in stone? Can we do something that will make us feel that our decision needs to be changed?
While something in the industry, especially the US PGA has pushed back to the roll back, WHAN is confident that this step is the right decision for the long -term health of the game.
“Listen, I think it’s not easy and everyone has got their own components. As an industry, we should be able to make small adjustments that are in the best interest for the long time of the game, that we all know that we all know that 40 years would be better than now if we were smart enough to make them today,” Van said. “We will make them. Everyone will not like it. It will be a high worry until we will not reach there. But no one is going to die. The game is going to be very good.”
