President Donald Trump has said that he has a buyer for Tikokok, who is a video-sharing app, which was banned in the US, claiming that it was a national security risk.
In an interview by Fox News, Trump said he had a group of “very rich people” that was ready to achieve the stage. “I will tell you in about two weeks,” they teased.
A sales would require approval from the Chinese government, but Trump told Fox that he felt President Xi Jinping “maybe”.
This month, Trump delayed the enforcement of the law that compulsory sales of tickets for the third time.
The latest extension requires the original company to reach a deal to sell the platform by 17 September.
The BBC has approached Tiktok for comment.
A previous deal to sell an American buyer to Tikok fell apart in April, when the White House collided with China on Trump’s tariff.
It is not clear that the current buyer Trump says that he has line the same one who was waiting in the wings three months ago.
The US Congress passed a law for the sale of Ticketkok in April last year, in which MPs feared that the app or its original company could hand over the US user data to the Chinese government, which was denied by Tikokkok.
Trump criticized the app during his first term, but came to see it as a factor in his 2024 election victory and now supports its continuous use in the US.
The law was about to be effective on January 19, but Trump has repeatedly delayed his enforcement through executive functions, those tricks have criticized for eliminating Congress MPs.
Tiktok challenged the constitutionality of the law, but lost its appeal to the US Supreme Court.
