The unexpected passing of actor Mukul Dev sent shockwaves through the film and television industry, with many speculating about the cause of his untimely demise. Now, his brother, actor Rahul Dev, has come forward to clarify the circumstances surrounding Mukul’s death, setting the record straight about the rumours that have been circulating.
Rahul Dev Reveals the Real Reason Behind Mukul’s Death
In a recent interview with The Times of India, Rahul shared that Mukul’s death was linked to his deteriorating health due to poor eating habits, and not depression as many believed.
Rahul said, “He was in the ICU for eight and a half days. Medically, it was a result of poor eating habits. In the last four-five days, he had stopped eating altogether. Of course, he felt lonely, and he had lost interest in life…He would turn down several work offers… Only now, after completing all the rituals, is the reality sinking in — and I know the pain will only deepen.”
Mukul Dev’s Life in Delhi and His Struggles
Rahul revealed that Mukul moved to Delhi in 2019 to look after their father, who passed away the same year. Their mother also passed away in 2023. During this time, Mukul focused on writing and became increasingly reclusive. Rahul shared that Mukul deeply missed his daughter and neglected his own well-being, which was worsened by living alone.
Rahul Dev Dismisses Depression Rumours
After Mukul’s passing, reports surfaced suggesting that he had been battling depression. Rahul has firmly denied these claims.
Reacting to the rumours, Rahul said, “The people who are speaking out now weren’t even in touch with him. They say he was unfit, but he ran half-marathons. Yes, he had gained weight — when someone stops caring about themselves, it shows… Who really stayed in touch with him between 2019 and 2024? Did they visit him when he was in the hospital or attend his prayer meet?”
Rahul expressed his wish to remember Mukul “not as the man who faded away, but as the super charming, intelligent, and sensitive person he truly was.”
