Detroit – Jake Kannap has drawn an achievement to someone else in the history of PGA Tour.
Kannap shot an 11-under 61 on Friday to break a rocket classic record that stood for less than a day and became the first on a tour to break 60 and shoot 61 or less in the same season.
It was still not enough to put him in the top six, entering the weekend at the Detroit Golf Club.
Chris Kirk (65), Philip Nolles (64) and Andrew Putnam (66) shared the second round lead under 14. Jackson Subar (65) was another shot back.
Aldrich Potgiator, who had 70 after sharing the 18-Hole lead with Kevin Roy, both shot a record-setting 62, and another stroke behind the Mark Hubard leader.
Kannap was in a large pack of players, including Colin Moricawa (64), Hideki Matsuayama (66) and Roy (71), three shots in the third round.
31-year-old Kannap, who won the Mexico Open as a crook last year, started the second round at 156-Khiladi Maidan after opening with 72. She grew into dispute with an eagle in nine birds and a bogie-free round.
“I was probably upset all night and this morning, so I think maybe a little help,” he said.
Kannap, at number 99 in the world, is the only player to shoot 61 in two rounds this season or a better shooting tour.
They shot 59 – A tour scoring record from 58 set tour scoring records by Jim Furrich in 2016 – four months ago in Cognizant Classic, when he recorded the tournament scoring record and recorded before finishing sixth.
Kannap broke the 18-hole record at the Detroit Golf Club, which was set in the first round on Thursday when both Potgiator and Roy shot 62.
“I think I want to make more,” Kannap said. “I was also thinking about 59 when I put it closer to the last hole.”
The 28 -year -old nools shot for their first PGA Tour win, cutting 11 events for the third time, which after failing to make it over the weekends in five straight tournaments.
“This is not my best year so far from any stretch of imagination, but golf is funny,” he said. “When you are playing badly, you never feel that you are going to play well again. And when you have days like today, you just don’t understand how you can ever shoot a bad phase of golf.”
