SC defers hearing till July 21 on film ‘Udaipur Files’, asks filmmakers to await Centre’s decision

New Delhi: Supreme Court postponed the film on July 21 for hearing ‘Udaipur files – Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder ‘, and the filmmakers asked the filmmakers to wait for the decision of the panel appointed by the Center to listen to the objections against the film.

The panel is scheduled to meet at 2:30 pm on Wednesday.

A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Joymlya Bagchi told the filmmakers that the accused in the murder case of Kanhaiya Lal tailor cannot be compensated for the loss of reputation if the film is released but the filmmakers may be in monetary terms.
The filmmakers challenged the Delhi High Court order on the release of the film.

The bench asked the committee of the Center to take immediate decisions without hearing of all the parties.


It directed the panel to hear the accused in the murder case. The film was scheduled to release on 11 July. On July 10, the Delhi High Court released until the Center demanded a permanent ban on the film’s ability to “promote disagreement” in the society.

Petitions, one of which is filed by Jamit Ulama-I-Hind Prior to the President and Principal of Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Arshad Madani, claims that a trailer of the film released on June 26 was with dialogues and examples, due to which the lead was led Communal inequality In 2022, and carries every ability to stoke the same feelings again.

Udaipur -based tailor Kanhaiya Lal was assassinated in June 2022 by Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammed bribe. The attackers later released a video claiming that the murder allegedly had a response to sharing a social media post in support of former BJP leader Nupur Sharma.

The matter was investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the accused were booked under the provisions under the Indian Penal Code, under the Prevention of Strict illegal activities.

The case is pending before the Special NIA court in Jaipur.
