The Special Task Force (STF) arrested a nomadic gang member who was absconding for 16 years. The accused, Satish alias Manish, resident of Mohammadabad Police Station area in Farrukhabad district, wanted and rewarded in the 2009 armed robbery in Bareilly 50,000, officials said.
Officials said that the STF team on Friday arrested Satish from Harsoli gate in Kherthal in Alwar district of Rajasthan and handed him over to Bhojpura police in Bareilly, officials said, he was sent to jail.
Confirming the arrest, ASP (STF) Abdul Qadir said, “The accused was involved in a major robbery in 2009 and escaped for the last 16 years. 50,000. Based on a specific input, our team arrested him in Alwar, Rajasthan, and handed him over to the Bareilly police. Further investigation is on. ,
According to officials, the matter returned in 2009, when Satish was part of a nomadic gang that temporarily set up a camp in Bareilly district. The gang looted four tractor-trolleys engaged in coordination with ten comrades, near the power grid in the Bhojpura region. The gang also looted two more tractor-trolleys from Devpur village from Devpur village.
While several gang members, including Deepak Bahlia, Ajit Bahlia, Suresh, Persel, Shyam Singh and Chandrapal, were arrested with stolen vehicles, Satish managed to escape.
STF officials said they had been following the lead for years, and recently obtained a tip-off that Satish was living under a false identity in the Kharthal of Alwar. He lived there with his family in ward number 25, Jat Colony, Anand Nagar, and worked as an auto-rickshaw driver.
During interrogation, Satish revealed that his two companions – Jagnd and Sujan – were residents of Bhind in Madhya Pradesh and were arrested from there, while another companion, Rahul died, said the officials. He said that Satish had made his name Manish and transferred to Rajasthan to avoid arrest for more than a decade.
