Former India head coach Ravi Shastri urged the BCCI to return Shubman Gill for at least three years regardless of the result of the England series.

Shubman Gill’s Test captaincy may begin, but former India coach Ravi Shastri is confident in the ability of the young cricketer. In a conversation with Visden, Shastri expressed his confidence as a leader with more time and experience in Gill’s development, despite India was 0–1 in a five-match series after a five-wicket defeat in Headingly.
Along with senior players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Rititrum, Shubman Gill has stepped into a step to lead an infection Indian team. Despite the defeat in Leeds, Ravi Shastri said that Gill stood out for his rare mixture of elegance and peace.
“I will be disappointed if the gill does not go to the place. Sluggish, lazy elegance, and when he is batting, he has found a regal element of regret out. If he can learn with an exposure and be suited to the circumstances, I think it’s a name that I can see,” Shastri said.
“He is very mature. The way he handles the media, the way he talks in a press conference, he has become very mature in the toss. Leave it there for three years. Cut and change despite what happens in the series. Stay with him for three years, and I think he will distribute to you.” Shastri said
Although Gill faced defeat in the first Test, he remained at the crease. He kicked the role of his leadership with a confidence in the first innings in Headingley, even if he could not distribute it to another. Nevertheless, his batting revealed that the leader’s pressure had not shaken his confidence.
However, Gill’s on-field decisions raised questions. During most of the time of the last session at day 5, England chased 371, often suggested KL Rahul that Gill was relying on senior players to support the team.
