The Israeli army has admitted to verify the BBC that it launched an already unknown strike on the Al-Mavasi region of Southern Gaza, allegedly killed at least one Palestinian and injured 30 others.

According to Hamas -Rana Civil Defense Agency, a strike took place on Sunday, 31 years after 31 Palestinians were killed in an incident near a new assistance distribution center in Rafah city.

Reviewing the footage to show the incident near the aid distribution center, BBC Verifi identified a separate strike at the nearby city of Khan Younis.

The explosion was previously not declared by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), which regularly publishes online operations updates.

It was only when contacted by the BBC verified that the IDF admitted that it went on a artillery strike and said the incident was the result of “technical and operational errors”.

He said that the soldiers had fired towards a “target”, but the artillery had “distracted” and “wrongly hit the Mavasi region” – a coastal strip of Khan Younis. The IDF did not provide evidence for these claims.

The IDF rarely accepts such “errors”. A BBC IDF verify the analysis of statements on the official Telegram account, only find the last four examples, which accepts the war -related “mistake”, “technical” or “operating” error in Gaza as it began in October 2023.

The footage we reviewed from Khan Younis Blast started to emerge late Sunday evening. It showed the bodies of blood surrounded by dust clouds in an area where Palestinians were living in tents. The ambulance reached the spot to gather the injured immediately after the incident. The BBC Verifai identified the number of the same injured Palestinians in both footage from the scene and the later images from the hospital, where they were treated.

According to Kuwaiti Field Hospital, one Palestinian was killed and 30 other strikes were injured.

The footage was initially wrongly associated with the murders near a controversial new aid distribution site in Rafa.

But the BBC verified the geolocated footage at one place in the Khan Unis – 4.5 km (2.8 mi) away from the distribution site.

We used the position of the sun to find out that the footage was filmed in the evening shortly before sunset. A local journalist who had filmed the footage of the scene also reported that the BBC verified that the incident occurred around 19:00 local time on Sunday – hours after the murders near the assistance site.

The IDF statement did not give a figure for those killed in the Khan Younis blast and said “the incident was being reviewed”.

The footage showing the strike is at the center of dispute between the BBC and the White House.

On Monday, the BBC verified that the footage reviewed and reviewed the claims that it was associated with the killings near the distribution center in Rafa.
