“In the last 10 years, we built a trail of about 40 miles – and then alone alone 10, which was very crazy,” Emily Strike said, a infectious energy was evident in his voice. While Emily can be the Executive Director of Strijich Pend Oral Paudlers (Pop), even he is amazed at the back speed of the local MTB advocacy group of Sandpoint, Idaho.

Pop has built a page from T, setting up its own in-house trail building crew and built at that speed. That evergreen MTB coalition playbookThey plan to create an additional seven miles of singletrack during the 2025 season.

The lower basin sandpoint is the current subscription to the singletrack development

Between 2024 and 2025 is located in about 100% sandpoints of 17 miles of new trail construction. Lower Basin Trail SystemWhile the current trail of the lower basin sandpoint has many houses of development, it is far from having a new trail system.

“We are working in the basin as long as it is riding around here, honestly. So the pop started in 2004, but even before that, people will get up there with their nobbies tires and would simply rally under these old utility lines,” Strijich said. “There is still a black downhill line with no speed control or safety facilities, but we keep it as a tribute to our rich history.”

While riders can still find grarly downhill trails, the current trail development in the basin is “world class”, according to Strijich. When some advanced trails talk, such as missing links, Strijich said, “It blows my mind that it is available on public land. You know, it is one of those trails – curse. This path is good.”

The lower basin area is located along a steep road that climbs on the basis of the Shwitjar mountain. Khadi mountain is home to wood and large scale granite rock slabs. “Once you get out of there, it is very squamish-like-this is a rock creation. So it really becomes like choosing its own adventure,” said Strijich.

What type of trails will you get in the lower basin?

“What’s very good, Greg, is it really something for everyone,” Strike said when I spoke to her. While “something for everyone” has a clich in trail-beding parlance, the lower basin qualifies.

Advanced mountain bikers will have a lot to keep them busy. Trails -like Missing linksBuilt in 2024, offer “Hybrid Black Tech Flow”. While this Black Diamond trail has rides on all facilities, if you decide to send the main line, you will be better committed. “There is probably a 15 -foot wooden inner jump, if you miss, you get into the rocks,” Strijich said. “There is also a rock drop, but it also has ornaments that you can roll.”

Intermediate riders will get a lot to entertain them with fully fabricated blue jump trails. The most popular jump line is the newly created combination of ET and phone homes. You can simply imagine the bike off the jumping lips and are never coming back again.

Many XC-oriented trails also run on the edge of the mountain, offering both the routes climbing two-way trails and both the melodious dynasty.

Overall, the lower basin consists of about 30 miles trails, which manage pop 22 miles. The lower basin provides about 1,600 vertical legs of descending under the roundabout. However, in fact where you should draw the line between a trail network and the other is slightly fuzzy.

Basin incredible trail connectivity, including several shuttle drops

If you fall into trails in the upper basin, you can extend that shuttle-surreal vertical to about 1,900 vertical legs.

But even more singletrack is available.

Mountain bikers prepared to pedal can continue to crank the hill, climb out of the forest and climb the purpose-made singleTrac in high alpine, topping at about 6,400 feet at the top Shwitjar mountainIf you rip all the way from the top of the mountain to the bottom, you will enjoy more than 3,800 vertical legs! And, of course, if you were to get a ride for the base of the lift, move the lift to the top, and then rip back to the floor of the valley, you can enjoy all that with very little pedaling.

The scale of these downhills may be scare to some riders, but thanks to the easy trail access from the switchback mountain road, the riders may fall into the lower basin trails where they want.

“I will say [shuttle riders] Perhaps the traffic is 55%, especially on the weekend, “Strijich said.” During the week, you have more locals, which obviously. So these more people are going out for their daily drives and exercises and accessories. But yes, in the weekend, it is very shuttle traffic, and honestly, so many young children are coming out, especially from switchback for down, because you can roll [everything] On those trails. ,

New trails under construction in 2025

Pop plans to create five main trails and several Alt lines in 2025, with new singletracks at a distance of seven miles. These trails include a climbing trail, a hybrid blue decent, a hand -made black dynasty, a hand -manufactured double black deity and the above all lines.

While most trail buildings will be completed by professional trail crew (“The notorious d.ig.”), local volunteers are also emotional about the building. One of the hand -manufactured tech trails will be produced 100% by volunteer labor.

“We can’t have a weekly trail work [day] Because we like 30 people in a week, “Strijich said. It’s crazy.”

And they are not staying there. Strizich shared some of its long-term plans, including a network of early-oriented singleTrac in the basin manufactured in partnership with Sandpoint Nordic Club.

While mountain biking in Sandpoint is already famous in Northwest USA, with this level speed, Sandpoint can only become the next Must-Ride Mountain bike maize.
